What Is A Cinematic Wedding Film?
When couples ask me what a cinematic wedding film is, they’re usually asking if it’s the beautifully edited highlight film they’ve seen online.
The answer is yes, but I think the word cinematic sometimes gets misunderstood.
A cinematic wedding film isn’t about making your wedding look like a movie. It’s about telling the story of your day in a way that helps you feel it again. Through thoughtful editing, meaningful audio, and real moments, the goal is to create a film that reminds you what it was like to be there.
That’s why every wedding I film includes two different films. A cinematic film tells the emotional story of the day. A documentary film preserves the day itself.
A Cinematic Wedding Film Should Still Feel Like Your Wedding
The word cinematic sometimes gives people the wrong impression. It can sound like you’ll spend the entire day posing for the camera or recreating moments that never actually happened.
That’s not my approach.
The most meaningful wedding films come from paying attention, not directing every moment. My job is to notice the little things that naturally happen throughout the day. A nervous laugh before the ceremony. The way your parents look at you during your vows. Friends hugging on the dance floor when they think nobody is watching. Those are the moments that give a wedding film its emotional weight.
When I edit a cinematic film, I’m not trying to include every part of the day. That’s what the documentary film is for. Instead, I’m looking for the moments that best tell the story of your wedding. Your vows, speeches, music, and natural sound all come together to create a film that feels honest to who you are.
That’s also why every wedding I film includes both a cinematic film and a documentary film. I don’t think couples should have to choose between storytelling and preservation.
A cinematic film helps you remember the feeling. A documentary film helps you remember the details. Together, they preserve the complete story of your wedding day.
